Online couples therapy in California

Feeling distant, stuck in the same argument, or recovering from broken trust? Couples therapy gives you a steady, nonjudgmental space to understand what's happening between you and change it, from the comfort of home.

When couples reach out

  • You keep having the same argument and nothing seems to change.
  • You feel more like roommates than partners.
  • Trust has been broken and you want to repair it.
  • You're facing a big transition, such as a move, a new baby, a career change, or a loss.
  • Communication has shut down, or turns into criticism and defensiveness.
  • You're unsure about the future of the relationship and want clarity.

How we work together

Jessica draws on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which looks at the emotional patterns and attachment needs underneath conflict, alongside family systems and relational approaches. Rather than assigning blame, sessions help each partner understand their part in the cycle and find new ways to turn toward one another.

Your goals set the direction. Some couples come to repair a specific injury; others want to strengthen a good relationship or prepare for a transition.

What to expect

Start with a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to see if we're a good fit. Early sessions focus on your story, your goals, and the patterns that show up when things get hard. Later sessions build new ways of talking, listening, and connecting.

Sessions are held by video, so there's no commute and no need to arrange travel. Evening appointments are available.

Common questions

Do both partners need to attend?

Couples therapy works best when both partners take part. If your partner isn't ready, an individual session can be a good place to start, and we can talk about next steps during your consultation.

What if one of us is thinking about leaving?

Many couples arrive uncertain. Therapy can help you understand what's happening and gain clarity about the relationship, whatever you ultimately decide.

How long does couples therapy take?

It depends on your goals and what you're working through. You and your therapist will check in on your progress together along the way.

Does insurance cover couples therapy?

Yes. Couples therapy is covered by every plan Jessica is in-network with: Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, Evernorth, and Optum/UnitedHealthcare. The same plans apply to Bahar, who is supervised by Jessica Askari, MS, LMFT #120514. Please confirm your copay with your plan, and we're happy to talk through options.
